Urban Designer

Leanne Hodyl is the founder and Managing Director of Hodyl + Co, a design and planning consultancy focused on creating cities people love. She is the author of the key report synthesising the 2016 Central City Built Form Review which articulates urban design proposals for enhancing and protecting the quality of Melbourne's urban environment.

Leanne is an urban designer with significant experience in leading urban policy and design projects critical to the future development of cities. Her experience encompasses built-form policy for high-density urban environments, urban renewal of inner city precincts, urban intensification strategies for existing areas, infrastructure planning and housing policy. She has worked in the public and private sectors on projects across Australia.

Leanne is currently undertaking PhD research at RMIT University's School of Global, Urban and Social Studies researching the design and policy settings of high density housing environments in Australia and internationally. Prior to starting Hodyl + Co she led the City of Melbourne's Urban Strategy team responsible for the preparation of neighbourhood plans and public realm projects in the central city.

In 2015 Leanne was awarded the President's Award by the Planning Institute of Australia (Victorian division) for her Churchill Fellowship report 'Investigating planning policies in hyper-dense, high-rise living environments'.
