Simon McPherson

Architect and Urban Designer

Simon McPherson trained as an Architect in Melbourne, and traversed into urban design via Victorian Government employment, and a Masters at London's Bartlett School in 2006, after also living and working in Glasgow, Scotland.

On returning from London, Simon founded a specialist Urban Design consultancy, SJB Urban, and built a prominent practice working across Victoria and beyond, with advanced capability in urban renewal, transport planning, strategic advice and design review. He also established major university research partnerships, focusing on housing choice, design quality and development dynamics.

Simon has since departed SJB Urban to pursue new career directions, and has established Global South, an independent, research-focused urban practice.

Simon is the Australian Institute of Architects representative on the Editorial Board for Australia's Urban Design Protocol, and a member of the University of Melbourne's Urban Design Advisory Board. He has commenced a Global Advisor role with the UN Global Compact Cities Programme, based in Melbourne and is a member of the South Australian Design Review Panel.

Simon is currently taking part in the inaugural Executive Masters in Cities programme at the London School of Economics, a specially designed, interdisciplinary programme focused on leadership and applied research, towards delivering large-scale change in cities.
