The National Gallery of Victoria’s 2018 Architecture Commission External link, designed by MUIR Architecture and landscape architecture studio Openwork creates a dramatic series of chasms for visitors to explore. ‘Doubleground’ is a multi-level installation that responds to the architectural elements the NGV International building designed by Sir Roy Grounds. The design references the triangular patterns of the roof and glass wall of the Great Hall.

The design competition for the annual Architecture Commission attracted 73 entries this year. The jury, chaired by Corbett Lyon (Lyons Architecture), comprised Stefan Preuss (Associate Government Architect), Eugenia Lim (Artist), Isabelle Tolland (Aileen Sage Architects), and Lisa Byrne (McClelland Sculpture Park and Gallery). ‘Doubleground’ is open for the public to experience until 22 April.
